These hotels are close to all of the major attractions in the Tampa area so staying there gives you more time to get more out of your staycation. When planning a staycation, always check with the area hotels to see if they offer any special rates or packages that are exclusive to residents. You would be surprised at the number of hotels in the area that offer these promotions, especially in the off peak months.
Right now the DoubleTree offers two promotions for residents. One is you get a $25 gas card (credit to Visit Tampa) if you stay 2 or more nights. Just enter PK8 into the promotion code / offer code box on the reservation page. This is perfect if you live nearby since it won’t cost you much gas to get there to begin with. They have another offer out there as well. If you are a Florida resident you can get a $25 property credit that can be used for golfing, relaxing at the spa, dining, and more while on your staycation at the DoubleTree. No promotion code / offer code is needed here. You just activate the deal from their offers page.
The Sheraton Tampa East Hotel also offers an exclusive rate for Florida residents. Just enter RESIDENT as the rate code and you will get the special rate of $89 per night. You just have to show your Florida ID when you check in.
Now once you get checked in you will need discounts on your activities. The suggestion here is to get the Tampa CityPass which saves you 49% off the cost of admission to Busch Gardens, The Florida Aquarium, Lowry Park Zoo, Clearwater Marine Aquarium, and either the Chihuly Collection or the Museum of Science and Industry. There’s also the Tampa Trio Pass which saves you $22 off the total cost of admission to The Florida Aquarium, Museum of Science & Industry, and Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo.

In the Tampa area there’s over 300 acres of sinister scares nearby. Each year the Busch Gardens Tampa theme park turns into what’s called the Howl-O-Scream. This event features new and horrifying haunted houses as well as sinister surprises around every corner. This evil overflows to the streets where hundreds of creatures roam. In addition to this, you’ll also get a chance to scream on all of the heart pounding rides in the park. It’s only open select nights leading up to the Halloween weekend. The last night of the event is November 1st. You’ll need a separate ticket for this event though. Just keep in mind that ticket prices do vary depending on the day of the week. Gates open at 7:30 pm and the park stays open as late as 1 am.
Tickets can be purchased at the gate or online. If you go ahead and purchase your tickets ahead of time though you can save both time and money.
